I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to serve in leadership roles in a wide variety of entities in the Public, Private and Non-Profits sectors. Some highlights include:

Public Sector:

Mayor, Town of Mountain Village, Colorado. (2007-2013):   Mountain Village is a municipality in Southwestern Colorado (the base village for the Telluride Ski Resort) with a full-time population of 1250 people and an annual budget exceeding $30M. I served on the Town Council for 8 years, with 6 years as the Mayor. In that time, I led the transformation of the Town's culture to one that is "glad to be of service." Insisting on rigorous financial planning and reporting we reduced spending, improved efficiency, and enhanced accountability and transparency. I also led many change initiatives at the Town, including the development of the Town's first-ever Strategic Plan. As Mayor, I was also Chairman of the MV Housing Authority and Planning Commission and was re-elected in 2009 with 89% of the vote in a contested election.

Planning Commissioner, City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California (2020-Present):

Planning Commissioners guide design reviews of new and remodeled residential and commercial real estate projects prioritizing the protection of the architectural character of the community. We also shape policies and ordinances.  I provided critical guidance to ensure the creation and approval of a Wireless Ordinance preventing unchecked proliferation of wireless facilities in the City.

Private Sector:

Accenture (1979-2004). From 1994-2002, as Managing Partner of a large ($250M+ Annual Revenue) global practice providing software solutions to the utility industry. Over a 25-year career, I collaborated with many clients worldwide assisting them with the design, implementation, and operation of business systems. Expert in managing teams, complexity, and change, I was sought out within Accenture to fill key Leadership and Quality Assurance roles on some of the most complex projects.

Twin Buttes of Durango (2015-2018) - Twin Buttes of Durango is a large residential real estate development project in Durango, Colorado. The project is spread across 800 acres of mountain topography, and will include over 800 homes, 600 acres of open space, 10 miles of trails, and a working farm. As Chief Operating Officer, I was the public face of the project providing leadership for sales, marketing, public relations, City relations, builder and architect relations, and the Design Review Board. I was also Treasurer of the Twin Buttes Metropolitan District.

Start-up Investor, Advisor and Board Member (2017-Present). Engaged with a variety of early-stage companies, all located in rural communities. Some examples:

  • MuniRevs (2017-2020): MuniRevs offers technology that enables local governments to issue business licenses online and collect sales, lodging, food and beverage taxes and other fees. I was an early investor, and sat on the Board of Directors, as chairman of the Finance Committee. MuniRevs was sold to GovOS in 2020.

  • Proximity Space (2017-Present) - Proximity technology enables owners of commercial real estate to sell and manage their assets as flexible workspace. I was the first investor in the company and am Chairman of the Board of Directors.

  • Agile Space Technology (2019-Present). Agile manufactures and tests rocket boosters used in space. Using additive manufacturing, Agile has cut the time and cost of manufacturing quality rocket boosters by as much as 70% over traditional methods. I was a founding investor and an advisor to management.
